Enthronement ceremony of His Holiness 42nd Sakya Trizin

On 9th March 2017 at Sakya Monastery Magon Thubten Namgyal Ling, Puruwala, Himachal Pradesh, India, the 42nd Sakya Trizin will be enthroned.
The current throne holder, His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin, saw with his vast vision that in the current time it would be beneficial to change the throne holder succession system. Even though this diverges from the established Sakya tradition, it should give an increased stability in the continuation of the teachings and administration of the Sakya. On 8th May 2014, the new throne holder succession system with a three-year rotation of the Sakya Trizin title was unanimously agreed by the Dolma Phodrang and the Phuntsok Phodrang.

The qualifications, detailed by that resolve, to become the throne holder include: the complete fulfilment of studies of all the basic rites and rituals of Sakya tradition, studies in all the major philosophies, receiving empowerments, reading transmissions, pith instructions, mastering the teachings of the ancestral Dharma teachings of Lamdre Tsogshey and Lamdre Lobshey, along with other important teachings and empowerments, and having accomplished the basic recitation retreat on Hevajra, and other important Yidam deities.


His Holiness Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, who is endowed with all above mentioned qualifications, will be the first throne holder under the new system.

On 9th March 2017, at Sakya Monastery Magon Thubten Namgyal Ling, Puruwala, Himachal Pradesh, India, he will officially be enthroned as the 42nd Sakya Trizin.
